Community Engagement Journals Roundtable: Publication and Peer Review in Our Field

Abstract: Editors from major peer-reviewed journals in the field of community engagement will share perspectives on the peer review and publication processes and respond to questions from prospective authors and reviewers. The panel will include editorial leaders from the International Journal for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement, the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement, the Journal of Community Engagement Scholarship, and the Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education.

Narrative: Publishing and the peer review of scholarship are critical activities for enabling the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in all fields, yet are not always processes that are transparent, well understood, or ones in which current and emerging scholars in our field participate. Building upon a well-attended and productive Spring 2023 panel discussion about peer review convened by IARSLCE and facilitated by IJRSLCE Senior Co-Editor Dr. Alan Bloomgarden, the editorial leadership team of the IJRSLCE (including Dr. Susan Harris and Dr. Morgan Lewing) seeks to continue its collaborative work with key journals in our field to further demystify these processes, invite more colleagues to participate in peer review, and widen the perspectives and identities represented in our field's approaches to scholarly production and dissemination.
