David S. Gutterman is a Professor in the Department of Politics, Policy, Law & Ethics Willamette University. He teaches courses on Ethics, Political Theory, Public Spaxce and Democracy, Religion and Politics, and the Politics of Sex, Sexuality, and Gender, and the Politics of the Body. His current research explores civil religion, civic engagement, and public space in the United States. He is the author of Political Religion and Religious Politics: Navigating Identities in the United States (co-authored with Andrew Murphy; Routledge, 2015) and Prophetic Politics: Christian Social Movements and American Democracy (Cornell University Press, 2005) and co-editor (with Andrew Murphy) of Religion, Politics, and American Identity: New Directions, New Controversies (Lexington Books, 2006). With Wendy Petersen-Boring, he is the co-director of The Conversation Project at Willamette.
