Dr. Trina L. Van Schyndel (she/her) is a Recruiter for the U.S. Peace Corps and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served as an English teacher (TEFL Secondary Education) in Ukraine from 2006-2008. As a recruiter she helps bring together skilled, committed volunteers with welcoming host communities in more than 60 countries who collaborate on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. She previously held leadership roles with Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life (IA), Campus Compact, and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE), as well as worked in community engagement offices at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin. She recently earned her PhD in higher, adult, and lifelong education from Michigan State University. Her dissertation focused on professional identity development of community-engaged practitioner-scholars through participation in professional associations while they are in graduate school. Her recent publications and presentations focus on understanding and supporting community-engaged graduate students and community-engaged boundary-spanners in higher education.
