Dr. Nicole Webster is the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Professor of Recreation, Park and Tourism Management in the College of Health and Human Development at Pennslyvania State University. Her research primarily focuses on understanding the impact of civic engagement experiences on the economic, social, and personal development of youth and young adults in historically marginalized communities across the African diaspora. Mainly using community-based research approaches, she offers a way to redress the underrepresentation of Black youth who are disproportionately underrepresented in the literature of youth civic engagement. Her scholarship working with diverse audiences can be found in her leadership and service responsibilities. She is Director of Penn State’s Global Youth Civic Lab and the former director of the University’s Collaborative Research Centre in Burkina Faso meant to increase the ethical STEM footprint of scientists in West Africa. Central to her leadership and teaching pedagogy are creating and sustaining inclusive environments to honor and respect the diversity in ways of being and knowing. She exemplifies this through her work with her Global Civic Lab which consists of global scholars who represent a breadth of racial, ethnic, and gender diversity.
