Dr. Angie Mejia has a Ph.D. in Sociology and extensive training in qualitative and community-based participatory research (CBPR) methods. This academic training is strengthened by over twenty years of accumulated experience as a child of civil rights activists and as a health promoter, community advocate, and social justice-engaged educator. As the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB)’s Assistant Director for the Community Engagement and Education (CEEd) core, she works as a subject matter expert in the use of community-engaged methods that incorporate the voice, perspective, and funds of knowledge from marginalized individuals, groups, and communities. Her scholarly work has appeared in various academic journals, including Pedagogy in Health Promotion: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (PHP), Action Research, and Practicing Anthropology, among others.
