Michelle Stigter‐Hayden is a senior lecturer at Butler University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Massachusetts at Amherst in German, a Master of Arts degree in German from Brigham Young University, and a Master of Science degree in Effective Teaching & Leadership from Butler University. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Literacy, Culture, & Language Education at Indiana University Bloomington. Her dissertation research focuses on student perceptions of cosmopolitan literacies development in service‐learning courses.
Frau Stigter-Hayden has developed several innovative courses including "So, Where are You From?," a service‐learning first‐year seminar course addressing issues of community and identity. She will be piloting a new service‐learning German conversation course in the Spring 2024 semester.
Frau Stigter‐Hayden is the 2023 Collegiate German Teacher of the Year for the Indiana chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German.
