Reverend Byron Shoffner is the co-leader and co-founder of the Anderson Community Group, formed in 2020 in response to the proposed siting of a polluting industry in his community. He has been in management for well over 39 years. During those 39 years of management his experiences included the U. S. military (the U.S. Army) and finance director over a multi-million-dollar line. In an effort to help his community during COVID-19, Rev. Shoffner volunteered to distribute food in the community, working with the Salvation Army. Due to a lack of transportation options available to residents, he went door-to-door to distribute food to residents experiencing food insecurity. He also organized the community to write letters, make phone calls, and participate in protecting their community from a polluting industry, and personally organized a backpack distribution event to support Anderson school kids as the school year started.
