Dr. Nabti has a BA in Political Science and an MA in Education from Stanford University and a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught at the junior high and high school levels, as well as at both Stanford University and the American University of Beirut. She has lived in Lebanon for over 30 years as an American expatriate and a naturalized Lebanese citizen. Dr. Nabti founded and directed the Association for Volunteer Services (1998-2012) to promote, facilitate, and improve volunteering and community service in Lebanon and beyond. Through AVS, she implemented The Arab Initiative to Foster a Culture of Volunteering (2010-2011). Her book, Learning to CARE: Education, Volunteering, and Community Service (available in English and Arabic), is a comprehensive guide to five different service options for students in K-12 schools, one of which is service-learning. As the Founder and Director of the Learning to CARE Institute, she provides consulting in Lebanon and other countries of the Arab region on service-learning and community service in K-12 schools and universities, on how to develop effective mandatory service programs in schools, as well as on all aspects of volunteerism. Most recently, she was the consultant on service-learning for the King Saud University Service-Learning Program, the first university program in service-learning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and possibly the whole Arab region. In addition to her work in service-learning and volunteerism, Dr. Nabti has continued to study the village of Bishmizzine in Lebanon that was the focus of her doctoral research, and is the coordinator of the Bishmizzine Heritage Initiative.
